How do I become a pilot?
Learning to fly is a daunting task. Don’t let that scare you though because it’s also one of the most rewarding things you will ever do in your life! Training to become a pilot is broken down into several different blocks including:
Aeronautical knowledge
FAA knowledge test
Pre-solo training
Solo training
Cross-country training
Solo cross-country training
Practical Test Preparation
Practical test
Requirements to start flight training
You can begin your flight training at any age, however, to solo in an aircraft you must have met the following requirements:
Be at least 16 year old (14 for operating a glider or balloon)
Hold at least a third class medical certificate (issued by an Aviation Medical Examiner)
Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language.
How long does it take to become a pilot?
The FAA requires a minimum of 40 hours of flight training which includes:
20 hours of dual instruction
3 hours of dual cross country flight
10 hours of solo flight
5 hours of solo cross-country
3 hours of night flying
3 hours of instrument flight
3 hours of flight-test preparation
Each person progresses at their own rate, and our instructors determine when you are ready to take your check ride. Therefore, training times will vary from one person to the next.
